Activity Summary

Jatinangor District has now been designated as the Jatinangor Urban Area (KPJ) by the Regional Government of Sumedang Regency. This was driven by the large number of universities that were built and entered the administrative area of ​​Sumedang Regency so that it was nicknamed the city of education. Jatinangor has become an educational area in accordance with the long-term plan of the West Java government as stated in the Decree of the Governor of West Java No.583/SK-PIK/1989 concerning the designation of Jatinangor as a higher education area.

Increasing students living in the area Jatinangor can certainly improve the economy of the Jatinangor community, where after being hit by COVID-19, the Jatinangor area was in suspended animation. On the other hand, this large number of residents creates serious problems in terms of waste. Jatinangor does not yet have a waste disposal site, so far the waste has been transported to the Sumedang area as a final disposal site. This waste issue is also a serious concern for the Head of Sayang Village, where Sayang Village, Jatinangor District, has 13 RWs which are quite large waste contributors due to their fairly large residences. The volume of wet waste produced by each household is approximately 0.4-0.5 kilograms. The waste problem in the Jatinangor area is influenced by the low level of understanding and concern in sorting waste, disposing of waste inappropriately and even treating waste by burning. Even though there is a law regarding waste management, unfortunately the government does not provide sufficient facilities and infrastructure.

The waste management training activity involved people from various hamlets totaling 34 people, consisting of people in There are 25 people in Sayang Village, Jatinangor District, 5 people consisting of community elements who care about waste, 5 village officials and 15 PKK members in Sayang Village, Jatinangor District. This community service aims to increase the effectiveness of household waste processing in Sayang Village through the implementation of the CRAPCO application combined with training and mentoring. The methods used include: outreach, training to convey understanding of the importance of processing household waste, as well as introduction to the CRAPCO application, mentoring and monitoring. The results of the service show an increase in public knowledge and awareness about the importance of waste processing, as well as the ability to utilize the CRAPCO application to process organic waste into compost and ecoenzyme.
