An earthquake measuring M 4.8 at a depth of 5 km rocked the city of Sumedang and its surroundings on December 31 2023 at 20:34 WIB. This incident was followed by aftershocks with a smaller strength than the main earthquake. As a result of the series of earthquakes, several building infrastructures suffered from minor to severe damage. The source of the earthquake that occurred in Sumedang and its surroundings is still being debated among researchers. There is still relatively little information regarding the subsurface in this area, so ongoing and continuous research is needed to increase knowledge and information in earthquake disaster mitigation efforts. In this research, 22 temporary seismic stations were installed around the location of the main earthquake. This aims to image the subsurface seismic structure at the Sumedang earthquake location and its surroundings using the Ambient Seismic Noise Tomography method.
Image the structure of Rayleigh wave group velocity (Vg) and S wave velocity (Vs) extracted from the vertical component of temporary seismic recording data.
The benefit of this research is to increase information regarding subsurface seismic structures in Sumedang and its surroundings.
