Activity Summary

The safety aspect is the most important thing in flight, especially in the flight test stage. Before doing any flight testing both manned and unmanned aircraft, a person must include a pre-flight checklist as a safety document required in the flight test plan. This paper reports the development of a new approach to determining the pre-flight checklist for UAV flight tests based on aircraft failure analysis. LSA (light surveillance aircraft) Lapan is used as a case study, assuming this aircraft has been converted into an unmanned version. Failure analysis was carried out on the LSA using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) method. Analysis is focused on the propulsion system and flight control system, where the failure of this system will lead to disaster events. UAV pre-flight checklists are then arranged based on the basic causes obtained from failure analysis.
