Activity Summary

This proposal is aimed at the Research, Community Service and Innovation Program of the Bandung Institute of Technology through the 2024 Program based on the concerns of Budi Sulistijo, Dr., M.App.Sc., Ir. regarding the symptoms of landslides in the Canning area and its surroundings which can be used as a model for the occurrence of landslides which end up being one of the causes of production disruption. What is of concern to researchers is that there have been no research activities to carry out the causes of landslides from a geological perspective as one of the causes of landslides at this location.

Symptoms of landslides have been observed by the main researcher in several locations in Pengalengan and there has been a trend of several landslides recently. At this time the landslide has caused damage resulting in discomfort.

The landslide at this location is thought to be influenced by the geology in this area. Lithology will affect the tensile strength, crushing strain, stiffness and bulking factor of rock layers. The depth of weathering (and the soil material) influences the size of the surface fracture, the limit angle and the maximum strain. Surface topography and bedding slope influence the symmetry of the landslide profile and the distribution of tensile and compressive strains. On the other hand, landslides affect the mass flow of hydrology, namely by causing fractures in the rock mass when tensile stress occurs but which will close again, and changes in water flow patterns on the surface and underground. In general, weathering of soil and upper sediments does not affect landslides.

Weathering causes the strength of the rock to be less and it is easily deformed than the parent rock. Weathering makes it difficult to identify the movement of cracks from expanding or contracting due to changes in natural humidity.

All of this will be examined at the research location and which geological phenomena are the most dominant as well as mitigation methods and
