Family development psychology factors in providing housing in urban areas based on natural relationships between humans and their occupancy are still not enough to be considered. This paper describes a review of housing needs (housing needed) which is very important for the life of young families in urban areas. This study produced a housing architecture model based on architectural design methodology. The characteristics of life in the phase of the family development cycle are the source of inspiration to formulate housing design principles for urban families. The housing model for urban young families produced from this study provides a picture of housing as a separate residence, in the form of an urban rental house. This housing model is in the form of small, compact and flexible residential units, in a safe environment of danger and is equipped with facilities that pay attention to young couple's residential needs, and become optimal containers for mother and child interaction. As a general model for the design of urban housing, the results of this architectural study can be continued to make the basic prototype design of young families in urban areas in Indonesia.
