Activity Summary

The village of Jelekong, which is located in Bandung Regency, is known as the center of the painting art craft industry since the 1980s. In addition to landscape paintings, other traditional art activities that live in this region are puppets, pencak silat and dance. In the last 10 years the development of Jelekong painting has experienced a high development, especially in terms of the development of painting techniques and the theme of painting, so the work produced has a high diversity. Painting on the canvas has become a skill that is commonly owned by craftsmen in Jelekong, so that the ability has the potential to be applied to other objects that have a fairly high economic opportunity. This community service program tries to optimize the ability to paint the poor community to be applied to functional products, namely on fashion products, such as shoes, bags, and others. The uniqueness of the techniques and skills of painting Jelekong craftsmen can be a characteristic of the products produced, because they are made handmade, allowing the appearance of different products with each other.

Most painters only receive wages of painting which are calculated from the number of paintings completed, so it will be difficult to increase income if only becoming a painting craftsman alone.
