Activity Summary

"Indonesia as a bamboo -producing country is still relatively lagging behind in terms of the availability of bamboo processing technology. It is very difficult to get durable and dry bamboo with standard quality and guarantee of the supply contauity. This greatly hampered the efforts of further use of bamboo. Utilization of bamboo to produce products with high added value requires good quality processing of raw materials. One important bamboo processing process is preservation. This process is very important to do immediately after bamboo is cut down, because bamboo is very vulnerable to fungus in a wet condition. Effective preservation technology has not been done much by bamboo craftsmen, in general it is still traditional, so it is necessary to find a comprehensive solution in improving the quality of products and international competitiveness. During this time the preservation process in the bamboo processing industry uses traditional methods and requires a long time of 7 days for cold soaking methods and boiling methods (2 days). Both of these methods have so far been considered too long so it is necessary to find an effective solution in terms of time, low costs and easy to operate. One of the methods that will be tried is the ""boucherie"" injection method. This method is done by inserting preservatives into bamboo with the help of pressure. This method is very simple and only requires a short time (15-20 minutes) for each bamboo stem with a length of 2 meters. Injection methods have been developed, especially to preserve bamboo. The ""injection"" boucherie preservation training was carried out in one of the bamboo bicycle gatherings in the Temanggunga-Central Java Regency, this activity began with the socialization of the bamboo detention process, making a solution of preservatives and preservation processes with the injection system, as well as the calculation of retention and penetration of preservatives in bamboo, Furthermore, the activity continued with checking the waste of preservation. Checking the quality of waste becomes important so that the waste results do not pollute the environment. The activity ended with the presentation of the results of the training and discussion of bamboo preservation problems and the process of bamboo fertilization as a bicycle frame material. This activity involved 4 teams from SITH and workers in the industry including the head of production and owners of bamboo bicycle craftsmen. This activity is a continuation of the activities that have been carried out previously with the theme of drying technology application. The sustainability of the service program this year is expected to solve the problem of bamboo detention more comprehensive to produce more durable bamboo. Through this PPM activity, it is hoped that the transfer of knowledge about the science and technology of preservation of bamboo and provides benefits to bicycle travelers made of bamboo and MSMEs in general. The output of this activity is video, publication in the mass media."
