Activity Summary

A geopark is an area that has geological heritage sites (geosite) and valuable natural landscapes, related to aspects of geological heritage (geoheritage), geological diversity (geodiversity), biological diversity (biodiversity) and cultural diversity (cultural diversity). ). Bangka Belitung Province, which is located in Indonesia, has enormous geotourism potential with a wealth of natural resources and unique natural beauty. The islands in this province have a rich geological history and interesting geological phenomena, making them a potential destination for geotourism development.

Bangka and Belitung Islands have unique biodiversity. Even though they are separated from the island of Sumatra, the flora and fauna on the islands of Bangka and Belitung have many similarities with the island of Sumatra, even on Bangka Island, fossils of the elephant Elephas maximus were also found. However, it was also found that several species are endemic species that are only found on the islands of Bangka and Belitung. This unique biodiversity is the result of long geological processes. Therefore, in this activity we will create a Paleobiogeography book on the Bangka Belitung Islands which explains the geological processes that cause the unique biodiversity on Bangka and Belitung Islands as a geotourism information guide for the Bangka-Belitung Islands. In this way, this activity becomes a form of scientific dissemination of paleontology and Quaternary geology in geotourism activities in Bangka and Belitung.

Target

Making a book on paleobiogeography of Bangka Belitung as a geotourism guide for Bangka Belitung. Disseminating knowledge from the findings to geotourism actors in Bangka Belitung Province in popular packages both in terms of theory and practice in the field. Disseminating knowledge to educational institutions and geotourism institutions in Bangka Belitung Province to increase the scientific capacity of paleontology and Quaternary geology.

Testimonials

Educating the geotourism community in the Bangka Belitung area. The results of the dissemination of geological science can be applied in geotourism activities in the Bangka Belitung area. It is hoped that the results of dissemination to the academic environment can increase research enthusiasm in Bangka Belitung.
