Activity Summary

Tasikmalaya embroidery is a traditional craft that is known to be beautiful and displays unique motifs derived from Chinese culture. Tasikmalaya embroidery, as a surface design technique, is generally used as a clothing decoration element. This causes limited consumer interest, and consumer misunderstandings that assume that Tasikmalaya embroidery is only decorative embroidery work in general. Apart from that, craftsmen always produce waste from clothing production. Therefore, the embroidery design diversification program was carried out to build the identity of Tasikmalaya embroidery and help it be responsive to sustainable needs through the creation of upcycled materials. Design development was carried out by combining inspiration from local endemic flora with 2024/2025 trends. Based on the design process, a new embroidery product was produced that displays a variety of colors resulting from processing upcycled materials based on patchwork techniques and is given embroidery affixation inspired by a typical local plant, namely kecombrang.
