Activity Summary

Physics and Chemistry is one of the abstract sciences in the form of a collection of facts, concepts of material, both elements, compounds, atoms, molecules, and ions. The abstract object makes it difficult for students to understand certain material in these subjects. On the other hand, the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 demands the use of technology in various fields of life, including in the field of education. Various software has been widely developed to be able to support learning in schools. However, the use of this software is still foreign to be used at the junior high school or high school level. So that most teachers choose more to use two -dimensional images or conventional teaching aids, where this method is less effective because it can still cause student understanding. This community service is intended to disseminate the use of software in the field of chemistry using Avogadro and the introduction of physics simulation (free fall, pendulum, and parabolic motion) using the Python and Matter JS programming language to be a solution to the above problems. Thus, chemical and physics teachers can provide appropriate understanding so that students can understand material related to well and comprehensively through the use of technology.
Community Service Activities (PM) which are funded and supported by the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) Institute Bandung Technology (ITB) has been successfully held at SMA Negeri 4 Denpasar with the theme "Chemical Education and Physics at the MA / High School level Based on Industrial Revolution 4.0". " This event was successfully attended by 75 participants, consisting of 37 participants in the physics sector and 36 participants in the field of chemistry, held from Friday to Saturday, 21-22 July 2023. This PM activity aims to introduce chemistry and physics learning by utilizing various technologies which is developing, especially in the computing field. The participants of the event were invited to get to know and understand the various latest technologies that can be used in the teaching and learning process of chemistry and physics. Technology such as interactive simulation and simple molecular modeling becomes the main focus in presenting interesting and interactive learning materials. In addition to introducing technology, this event began with the presentation of material about misconceptions in the fields of chemistry and physics. The purpose of this section is to straighten some misunderstandings that may exist in students or educators. By realizing and understanding misconceptions, it is expected that the learning process of the two fields can be more optimal and efficient. This PM event was lively and successful with enthusiastic support from the Principal of Denpasar 4 High School and the presence of chemical and physics teachers from various schools in Bali. The event participants were actively involved in the discussion and direct practice with the technology prepared by the committee team.



Target

Providing training to Chemistry and Physics Teachers at the High School/MA Level in Bali Province related to the molecular structure and modeling of physical systems using software assistance.

The benefit of KK/FS/ITB is to increase the publicity of KK/FS/ITB in various regions in Indonesia, especially in the Province of Bali, so that it is expected to encourage chemical and physics teachers at the high school/MA level to continue their education to FMIPA ITB.
