In an effort to support the Central Government and West Java Provincial Government programs regarding the Acceleration of Control of Pollution and Damage to the Citarum River Watershed. ITB has also played an active role through the integrated Citarum Harum Restoration Task Force which was formed in 2018. In 2024 the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM, previously LPPM) again launched the Community Service program with the assignment scheme for the Citarum Harum Community Service program (PM Citarum Harum) which is prepared for three targets, namely (1) Sustainability of targets in villages that have been previously developed in the Citarum river area, namely Tarikolot Village, (2) Other villages around the Citarum river basin, namely Cinangsi and Cirata Reservoir, and (3) Other locations that represent the Citarum river basin.
One of the community service activities carried out under the PM Citarum Harum scheme is entitled "Training on Environmentally Friendly Land-Based Fish Cultivation Business Management". It is hoped that this activity can make a real contribution in reducing the pollution burden on the Citarum River through managing fish farming businesses and processing fish-based products in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. This activity was carried out at the Fish Breeders Group (KJA 10) in the Jangari Reservoir which is part of the Cirata Reservoir with a fairly high floating net cage location.
This activity is designed to provide fish farmers and surrounding communities with an in-depth understanding of the importance of efficient and sustainable (environmentally friendly) fish farming business management and processing of fish-based products. In addition, through business management analysis, it is hoped that participants can have a clear picture of the potential profits and risks that may be faced in running a land-based fish cultivation business and processing fish-based products. With good management, it is hoped that waste from fish farming and processing activities can be minimized, thereby contributing to maintaining the water quality of the Citarum River. It is also hoped that this service activity can encourage the creation of sustainable fish cultivation and processing businesses and make a real contribution to efforts to restore and preserve the Citarum River, in line with the vision of the Citarum Harum Program to create a clean, healthy and sustainable river for future generations.
The main aim of this activity is to increase the community's capacity and knowledge in managing fish farming businesses that are not only economically profitable, but also have a positive impact on the environment.
"This community service program is expected to be beneficial: a. Increasing the knowledge and skills of fish farmers in terms of efficient and sustainable fish farming business management, conducting business feasibility analysis, calculating costs and profits, and developing a comprehensive business plan. b. Apart from cultivating fish, people can create new business opportunities by processing fish into various kinds of fish-based products such as fish filets, fish balls, fish nuggets, fish skin crackers, fish bone crackers, etc. "
