Activity Summary

Lake Maninjau is a lake in Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The community around Lake Maninjau has the main livelihood as a pharmaceous fishnet farmer. This work field provides considerable income and is relatively easy to do so that its development is very rapid and uncontrollable. Until now, the polampulation of the cage which was formally recorded was 17,000 (30,000 of interviews) with density planting fish that vary between 19000-20000 fish / cages. While the previous studies issued a recommendation that the carrying capacity of Lake Maninjau was only for 6000 cages with planting densities of 15000 fish / cages. The high population of cages causes a decrease in water and air quality, and damage to ecosystems. Communities can accept the importance of reducing the number of fish cages as long as explanation / socialization is done well. In addition, the community asked the local government to provide the right alternative solutions to ensure their income did not decrease afterwards. In an effort to solve this problem, LPPM ITB cooperates with ITB and the Regional Government of Agam Regency provides several alternative solutions including agro-industrial-based entrepreneurship growth for the community around Lake Maninjau. This agro-based entrepreneurial growth program is expected to provide other alternative activities so that the community is not fixated on fish cage activities. The design of this program includes training activities, monitoring, administration of business capital, and mentoring. Target Training this time is the 1st Tanjung Raya High School student, Padang, West Sumatra. With this training, it is expected that students can spread their knowledge and develop oyster fungus cultivation around Lake Maninjau. The expected end result in this program is a business center.
