Researcher Name (Team Leader)

Activity Summary

The problem of scarcity of clean water in the 3T (Disadvantaged, Frontier and Outermost) areas of Sumba Island is still not resolved. As ITB's effort to contribute to helping provide a solution to this problem, since 2022, community service activities have been carried out installing and training on the installation of water distillation equipment using solar energy (solar still) in the 3T area of Central Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Unfortunately, this solar still installation can only reach very small villages and areas compared to the total of other areas on Sumba Island which have the same problem. It must be acknowledged that the area experiencing the problem of limited clean water is very large. Therefore, a proposal with the same topic was submitted again this year to be carried out in other areas on Sumba Island which also experience the problem of limited clean water. This activity was carried out to expand the scope of the impact of this activity and accelerate the process of spreading awareness and knowledge. It is hoped that the proposed ITB community service activities will be part of a long-term strategy that must be carried out consistently and sustainably to be able to resolve the problem of limited clean water on Sumba Island.

Target

Installing solar desalination equipment in Anakalang Village, Central Sumba Regency

Testimonials

The benefit for KK and faculty is that there is continuity between research and community service, so that the technology researched in the lab can be utilized more widely by the community. It is hoped that solar still desalination technology with solar power can be a solution for providing clean water in Anakalang Village, Central Sumba.
