Indonesia has an extraordinary wealth of genetic resources, including various local rice varieties which have great potential for development. However, many of these varieties have not been utilized optimally, either due to lack of knowledge, resources or access to technology. For this reason, it is important to have initiatives that involve the community directly in rice breeding in order to improve its quality and productivity, while maintaining the sustainability of local varieties. This community service activity is part of the SITH ITB Genetics and Molecular Biotechnology KK's efforts to contribute to the preservation and sustainable use of local genetic resources. Through this activity, it is hoped that synergy can be established between academics and the community in realizing more innovative and sustainable agriculture in Sumedang Regency.
