Activity Summary

The "Galaxy Cruise Workshop" at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is a citizen science initiative designed to engage the community in astronomical research. This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to contribute to the identification and classification of galaxies using images captured by space telescopes. The primary objective of this study is to explore the extent and impact of community involvement in the Galaxy Cruise project, as well as to assess the effectiveness of this approach in enhancing public understanding of astronomy. Through a combination of practical sessions and guided analysis, participants were able to actively participate in scientific processes and gain hands-on experience in data analysis. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate participants' experiences and knowledge gains. The findings indicate that the workshop not only fostered a greater appreciation for scientific research but also provided a unique platform for bridging the gap between scientists and the general public. This paper concludes that community-based initiatives like the Galaxy Cruise Workshop can play a pivotal role in promoting science education and encouraging public participation in scientific discovery.
