Climate change causes extreme weather in many places in the world, including Indonesia. This region, which has so many variations in weather and climate, is influenced by many phenomena such as monsoons, ENSO, IOD, MJO, cold surges and various atmospheric waves. The rainy season or prolonged dry season often causes disasters in the form of loss of property and even lives. The public does not yet understand this hydrometeorological disaster event well, so public awareness is needed by competent parties, for example universities.
The theme of World Meteorological Day 2024 is At the Front Line of Climate Change Action. Actions on climate change are not just talked about but must be real actions in the field. The several webinars that we have held are an ongoing series of our efforts to raise awareness among the public regarding environmental issues, especially climate change. We also go out to the community by delivering educational outreach and real examples of action in the field. Usually the community groups that we target are primarily those in the educational environment, namely the younger generation and teachers because they are potential agents of change in the country.
In our efforts to commemorate World Meteorological Day which falls in the month of March 2024 and continuing the series of activity programs, both virtual and real action in the field, that we have carried out so far, we are holding Training for Candidates for Front Guard Information on Indonesian Weather, Seasons and Climate. This training takes the form of a webinar involving experts and specialists from several universities in Java and outside Java, namely ITB, UNSRI, UNHAS, UNDIP, BMKG, and BRIN. We conducted the webinar with the consideration that participants could access this activity from all corners of Indonesia at a very low cost. They don't need to pay and only have internet access.
Increasing the participation of the educated community in responding to climate change issues. Improving the ability of prospective frontliners for information on weather, seasons and climate in Indonesia. Strengthen interaction between PT, government, private sector, society and mass media so that field actions related to disasters, the environment and climate change can be more organized. To commemorate World Meteorology Day
Increase the number and quality of community service activities carried out by KK, study programs and FITB. Bringing ITB closer to the general public in all corners of the country. Indonesian people are increasingly familiar with institutions other than BMKG in terms of weather and climate. The public increasingly understands and is willing and able to be at the forefront of weather and climate information in Indonesia. Indonesia's participation in responding to the issue of climate change through climate action is increasing.
