Activity Summary

The ex-mining excavated land in Seluang River, Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, is currently unproductive and requires rehabilitation efforts. Bamboo was chosen as a suitable plant for land restoration because it has a strong root system, the ability to grow in less fertile soil conditions, and high economic value. This training aims to teach local communities about bamboo cultivation and processing, in order to increase economic prosperity and improve environmental conditions.

This training aims to: provide an understanding of the types of bamboo, their benefits, and appropriate cultivation techniques as well as teaching techniques planting, maintaining and processing bamboo into commercial products. Targeting community participants around Sungai Seluang sub-district, Samboja-Luati Kartanegara sub-district.

Training is carried out with two main activities, namely theory in the classroom and direct practice in the field. The theory provided includes an understanding of bamboo types, the economic potential of bamboo, bamboo planting techniques and bamboo preservation techniques. Meanwhile, practices are carried out regarding planting bamboo in former coal mines. Training on preserving and planting commercial bamboo in Sungai Seluang, Kec. Samboja, Kab. Kutai Kartanegara, is the first step to convert ex-mining land into valuable resources. With the knowledge and skills obtained from this training, the community is expected to be able to develop sustainable businesses, improve economic prosperity, and support local environmental restoration efforts.



Target

"1. Increase Knowledge and Skills: Provide basic knowledge and technical skills to participants regarding bamboo cultivation and processing. 2. Use of Ex-Mining Land: Encourage the use of unproductive ex-mining land to become sustainable bamboo cultivation land. 3. Increasing the Local Economy: Increasing community income through the development of commercial bamboo products."
