Global warming and extreme weather that has occurred and become increasingly severe recently will cause sea levels to rise which will exacerbate natural phenomena that can endanger coastal areas, such as abrasion which causes damage in Maluku Province, especially Ambon City. This is exacerbated by the loss of one of the natural protective systems in the coastal areas of the area, namely mangrove forests, resulting in massive logging during the process of building wave break bays. However, this bay is also in a condition that is in danger of being damaged, so it cannot withstand waves optimally. As a result, local residents are currently worried because there is no coastal protection system that can protect them from high waves. Therefore, responding to the needs of the community and the Regional Government of Ambon City and Environmental Activists in Ambon City as stated in the attachment, we propose community service activities with the theme Conservation and Mitigation of Climate Change in the Ambon Bay Coastal Area with Nature Based Solutions (NBS). We will use a mathematical simulation model to determine the planting location so that the planted mangrove trees grow well. Apart from that, we will hold outreach activities which will specifically be aimed at schools in Ambon City. Socialization is considered important to be carried out in order to increase awareness of the surrounding community, especially the younger generation, so that joint mangrove planting activities can continue to be carried out in a sustainable manner. From this Community Service activity, we, together with the regional government and surrounding communities, will carry out mangrove planting and provide outreach regarding the importance of preserving mengroves for local communities so that the planted mangrove forests can last a long time.
Outreach to schools to raise awareness from an early age regarding the importance of mangrove restoration and preservation in coastal protection efforts. Mangrove planting program together with local government and surrounding communities
This activity is very useful for making various generations aware of the importance of planting mangrove trees to protect coastal areas. The impact is felt not only in the surrounding community, but also nationally. For the long-term goal, increasing awareness of the community and local government, especially the younger generation, regarding the importance of mangroves and how to preserve their existence through outreach is expected to be able to maintain the sustainability of this activity independently, so that coastal protection efforts will not end at the same time as the end of this community service activity.
