Activity Summary

Industry Tourism in Indonesia has enormous potential because it has Biodiversity and rich natural landscapes. Karimunjawa, an island which is located in the Java Sea, is one of the most vacation spots Famous in Indonesia. Realizing the gap between the number of tourists and the readiness of local residents, especially in the ability to speak English, activities This community service is intended to improve their abilities Young Generation Karimunjawa. This activity is carried out through collaboration between Academics and local non -profit organizations, with the main target of middle and high school students. Starting with the identification of problems and field observations, a book was compiled Teach entitled " English for Marine Tourism". After two months following intensive training, the participants were evaluated through their abilities through Practice and written exams and evaluation questionnaires. This initiative is not only aims to improve the quality of human resources in Karimunjawa, however also supports the development of sustainable tourism by considering Economic, socio -cultural, and environmental factors.



Target

This community service has the main goal to increase the potential of adolescents, especially in the field of English education. This English ability is important because of the increase in foreign tourist visits in Karimunjawa which continues to increase and is followed by regional economic growth. This potential requires the readiness of human resources, one of which is the ability of English to provide experience and good service to foreign tourists visiting. So there is a positive relationship between optimizing the ability of the English language of the local community and economic growth in the field of tourism.

In addition to adolescents in Karimunjawa, they received training in English language skills, with this service program the teaching staff at the school as the target of community service and local NGOs gained new knowledge and synergy between the academics of tertiary institutions and teachers in the regions. For the perpetrators of the Community Service program, in this case ITB lecturers and students, get the opportunity to contribute their expertise and knowledge of the Indonesian government program to launch Karimunjawa as a leading tourist destination. In addition, it is hoped that with this service, the relationship between universities, the government, and the community will have the sustainability of programs in the future.
