Pangandaran as a tourism destination has declared itself to be a sustainable tourism destination. Various efforts have been made to fulfill all the criteria and indicators for sustainable tourism destinations issued by the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Council (ISTC).
The assessment carried out by ISTC shows that of the 176 indicators, only 14 indicators can be fully fulfilled by Pangandaran. So the quality of 162 other indicators still needs to be improved in order to meet the sustainable criteria.
ITB through the Center for Tourism Planning and Development (P-P2Par) provides assistance to the Government and also communities to improve various sustainable assessment benchmarks that are still ongoing. lacking but has the potential to be improved. One of them is related to waste management carried out by the Sahate Waste Bank with the zero waste principle which is followed by hotels and restaurants in Pangandaran. The current number is only 30 restaurants and hotels, but it is hoped that this will continue to increase.
