Astronomy is not only one of the oldest sciences, but also part of culture. Since the ancient times, humans have looked to the sky for many purposes, i.e. for time determination, navigation, etc. The beauty of the sky has also inspired humans in many aspects, for example in art and culture. Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to cloth, made by hand or tools. Batik is one of the most highly developed art forms of Indonesia�s rich cultural heritage. In 2009, UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) recognized Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Unfortunately, many young people of Indonesia do not understand or appreciate Batik. The number of batik painters is on the decline due to a lack of interest of the younger generation. We therefore would like to invite young people to love Batik through public outreach, batik workshop, also creating astronomy inspired batik by combining traditional and modern elements.
