Activity Summary

One of the problems called in the strategic plan of the Ministry of National Education in 2010-2014 is the existence of a distribution disparity of teachers who are quite wide. Teachers in the city generally have better skills than teachers in the countryside. This is because one of them is due to access to information in a better city supported by better infrastructure. ICT utilization to support teaching and learning activities still get a number of obstacles, one of which is related to the problem of internet network infrastructure in Indonesia especially in the rural area. Bandwidth capacity in Rural areas is generally still very limited. With limited bandwidth it causes access to information, especially those that have large data sizes such as video or multimedia content to have small reliability as well. The problem of teacher skills disparity can be overcome by teacher exchanges or implementing training programs for teachers. But this can spend a lot of funds for the implementation. Multimedia Conference Technology can be used by teachers to teach a number of schools simultaneously who still lack teaching staff. To utilize this video stremming technology, it is certainly a high-quality and high-capacity network infrastructure. But now various multimedia data encoding technology has been developed which can increase the efficiency of bandwidth use in existing network infrastructure. With the selection of transmission technology and the right data encoder can increase the reliability of the multimedia conference process. The teacher community from several elementary schools in Cianjur West Java has attended a digital learning program called the Digital Learning Lesson Study (DL-LS) initiated by ITB-UPI researchers at the ITB Information and Communication Technology Research Center (PPTIK). In the program the teachers attended the teacher quality improvement program through an ICT-based Lesson Study approach. Open Lesson as one stage of the Lesson Study carried out with the support of multimedia conference technology developed through this research so that learning can include more than one separate class distance but connected via internet network. This PM activity is carried out the application of the latest multimedia conference technology that has been produced through other research programs. Activities include the operation of the Multimedia Conference System for teachers or elementary school operators, the implementation of Open Lesson activities with the latest multimedia conference technology produced, measurement and testing the quality of multimedia conference services, and the preparation of publications.

Target

Application of Writing, Implementation of Social Concern Activities in the form of education / counseling / mentoring

Testimonials

Cianjur West Java DL-LS Community has implemented multimedia conference technology to Open Lesson in order to implement the DL-LS program. However, the technology produced and used is still experiencing constraints, namely the operation that is still difficult to do and the guarantee of service quality is still lacking.
