Activity Summary

Activities of measurement and environmental monitoring are very important for the feasibility of life and continuity of human daily activities that inhabit an area. Monitoring of environmental radiation is needed regularly and comprehensively both related to natural radiation both from food, soil, cosmic from outer space and others that are naturally found in, then radiation due to man-made or human engineering such as for health checks using x-ray, x-ray, source Radioactive for industrial purposes, research to the Power Power Plant (PLTN). Monitoring and mapping of natural radiation is needed to find out the distribution and value of radiation in certain areas, especially in Indonesia. Indonesia plans to build a nuclear power plant which of course is monitoring related to man -made radiation needs to be made. As a global issue, namely the human need for energy and environmental impacts of global warming, becomes the basic background of this research. Along with the ITB Strategic Plan 2021-2025 with the mission of accelerating the ability of ITB in producing superior research works (emerging) in seven excellent fields, namely: (1) energy; (2) food and health technology; (3) water and environmental resources; (4) infrastructure, transportation, and marine; (5) manufacturing and process industry; (6) information and communication technology as well as creative and service industries; and (7) art and design. The topic of this research is related to the topics of energy, radiation, weather and effects on the environment, more specifically related to new renewable energy.

Some important points behind the submission of this research include:

a. Energy needs that are increasingly high, new and renewable energy needs (EBT) including nuclear energy becomes increasingly important.

b. With the increasing use of nuclear energy both for energy applications and for the health, medicine and other industrial applications.

c. Evaluation of environmental aspects of nature and man -made in the form of nuclear radiation, weather and pollution aspects that affect health, environment and community life.

d. Aspects of monitoring, mapping and mitigation and their influence on health and the environment are very necessary in order to improve the quality of life and optimization of the utilization of energy and the environment remains clean and healthy.

Radiation received as a dose of radiation can be in the form of natural radiation (natural radiation ) and comes from man-made radiation (such as the use of X-rays). Based on the Unscear 2000 report (United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation), states that on average someone will receive a dose of 2.8 MSV (280 mrem) per year. About 85% of the total dosage comes from nature. About 43% of the total dosage comes from radion radionuclides in the house. These rays can be alpha rays (α), beta rays (β), gamma rays (γ), X-rays and neutron particles. All ingredients contained in the earth's crust contain radionuclide, especially uranium (U), thorium (th) and potassium (K). Uranium is scattered on rocks and soil in very small concentrations. U-238 is the parent of several radionuclide decay sequences. Each radionuclide will decay into other radionuclides until finally a stable Nuclear PB-206 is achieved. One of the radionuclides in the uranium decay series is Radon-222 (RN-222) which can interact with air. Thorium is also spread in the soil, and TH-232 is a parent radionuclide from another decay series. Potassium concentrations are more than uranium and thorium. All of these radionuclides emulate gamma radiation. One area containing Thorium Yan Gany is Bangka Belitung Island. This activity is in line with research and community service activities. One of the activities of Nuclear HR and HR education is: new and renewable energy, nuclear science and technology and environmental radiation monitoring, and sharing knowledge and technology (Science and Technology) and Human Resources (HR) nuclear ) Masters in Science and Nuclear Engineering (S2-Nuclear) and Nuclear Engineering Doctoral Studytor (S3-Nuclear) Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Nuclear Physics Expertise Group and FMIPA ITB Biophasis in collaboration with the Department of Informatics ISB Atma Luhur, Bangka Belitung, which will be held :

Target

1. Monitoring and observing and socializing and educating and education related to nuclear science and technology, especially applications on environmental nuclear radiation, especially in Bangka Belitung Province; 3. In this community service activity, monitoring the level of natural radiation and evaluating the level of environmental radinonukeuclides around it, especially in several large cities and the area indicated the source of nuclear excavation materials as part of the national mapping for the level of natural radiation throughout Indonesia.; 2. This activity is in the context of surveying and monitoring and education related to environmental and weather nuclear radiation in big cities in Indonesia so that the national radiation map is known.

Testimonials

From the results of this community service, it is hoped that there will be several outcomes that are good for study programs, faculties, Indonesia and globally including: 1. The existence of aspects of education and community service that synergizes with the development of theory and field observations, as well as analysis for sample analysis and material characterization. Then empowering student research skills both graduate and postgraduate 2. Can be one of the scientific references and education for science and technology related to environmental radiation and protection, as well as aspects of the environment and health and safety of workers, especially related to nuclear radiation. 3. The existence of educational and research activities as well as community service activities in scientific development through field measurement tools and cooperation that have been produced from this study This activity is in line with research and community service activities. One of the activities of Nuclear HR and HR education is: new and renewable energy, nuclear science and technology and environmental radiation monitoring, and sharing knowledge and technology (Science and Technology) and Human Resources (HR) nuclear ) Masters in Science and Nuclear Engineering (S2-Nuclear) and Nuclear Engineering Doctoral Studytor (S3-Nuclear) Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Nuclear Physics Expertise Group and FMIPA ITB Biophysics in collaboration with the Department of Informatics ISB atma Luhur, Bangka Belitung The results of community service will be published in international journals and presented in 1-2 national or international conferences and are expected to be international cooperation due to interaction with the International Society. It is also expected to be a reference for the policy of national nuclear energy utilization. In this research process, we also conduct correspondence with researchers both from within and from abroad, as well as conducting the initiation of national and international research cooperation. Semninar or workshop or national or international FGD is one part of the activity in the framework of socialization, cooperation and increasing network development. Collaboration of research and community service with networks outside ITB from Brin and from abroad is very good and effective. One -month visit in Japan for research collaboration and also the visit of Japanese professors for research at ITB has been conducted and other cooperation in joint education and publication and of course in the form of seminars.
