Activity Summary

Mangrove ecotourism socialization activities were carried out by the Applied Oceanography and Environmental Expertise Group, Faculty of Earth Science and Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology, at SDN 1 and SDN 3 Mundupesisir, Cirebon Regency, on 16–17 October 2024. This activity aims to increase understanding students about the importance of mangrove ecosystems as coastal protectors, pollutant filters and carbon stores, as well as introducing the potential of mangrove ecotourism as an environmental conservation effort.

Through an interactive educational approach, this activity involved around 360 students from grades 4 and 6. Activities included education about the mangrove ecosystem, educational games such as puzzles and charades, as well as interactive discussions aimed at attracting students' interest in understanding and preserving the coastal environment. This program produces output in the form of increasing students' knowledge about the function of mangroves and relevant ecotourism potential to support the balance of coastal ecosystems. This ecotourism-based educational approach is expected to motivate students to contribute to preserving the mangrove ecosystem in their area.
