Muara District, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, this area is one of the villages that has various potentials in North Sumatra, both natural and cultural. One of the livelihoods of the people of this village is weaving, including Sibolang, Mangiring and Harungguan ulos weaving. There are several obstacles in weaving production in this area, including the limited knowledge of weavers in the local area in utilizing the potential of the surrounding nature as a source of natural dyes. So far, local people generally use colored cotton threads from yarn shops located in the local area. The colors available are generally bright and striking with less variety. There needs to be breakthroughs in terms of weaving development to improve quality and competitiveness in the market, by exploiting local potential. Recommendations that will be given are in the form of developing weaving designs by presenting typical regional decorations, as well as using natural dyes in effective ways. In this way, various attractive color ranges with good quality can be obtained.
Developing a decorative variety of Ulos Sibolang ikat warp weaving, especially in terms of color composition and pattern by highlighting local values based on the cultural potential and weaving skills of the target area community. Various color ranges are produced through experimentation with the processing of natural dyes sourced from the local environment, resulting in a variety of alternative quality woven products.
Reference for studies on craft product development within the Craft Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, especially in terms of natural dyeing for textiles. Become part of learning innovation activities because the results of these activities can become lecture material related to craft and materials courses. Transferring knowledge about the use of natural dyes sourced from local natural resource potential so that the community can produce a variety of color ranges of optimal quality. Develop weaving designs that highlight local values, based on the potential and skills of the target area community, so that a variety of quality alternative woven products will be produced.
