Sumpur Kudus Village is known as one of the villages most active in preserving its customary forest area, with an area of 4,862 hectares. This area has the potential for non-timber forest products (NTFPs) and extraordinary biodiversity.
Since 2018, the people of Sumpur Kudus Village have carried out various conservation activities, such as forest monitoring, inventory of forest potential, and prevention of illegal logging . To fund this activity and prevent forest damage, they are developing sustainable rattan harvesting accompanied by a replanting program for harvested rattan. However, for the success of this program, adequate nursery facilities are an urgent need.
One of the technological approaches provided by the Bandung Institute of Technology to assist community activities is the introduction of tissue culture technology and seed rearing space for rattan propagation.
