In the current information era, internet access has become one of society's main needs. Not only people in urban areas and Java Island, but also people who live outside Java, especially in underdeveloped, frontier and outermost areas (3T). Indonesia, as a very large archipelagic country whose territory is very spread out, has big challenges in providing internet access facilities for its population. Apart from the size of the area, this challenge is also motivated by geographical conditions, infrastructure, logistical access and economic conditions and community welfare. Of all the regional circles or zones, the biggest challenges that need special attention are in the underdeveloped, frontier and outermost (3T) zones. These areas are generally located far from big cities and economic centers, so community empowerment needs to be given greater focus.
To overcome the internet access problem, the government has implemented several national strategic programs such as the Palapa Ring, 3T Village BTS and Satellite-based Internet. However, for residents of Ohoinangan Village, Kec. Big Kei. District Southeast Maluku, Maluku, limited internet access is still a challenge that needs to be considered today. ITB as a tertiary institution, in this case LPPM ITB in collaboration with the Ministry of Villages PDTT, needs to make a real contribution in the form of community service to village communities, especially in underdeveloped, frontier and outermost areas (3T). The community service activities that we propose in this proposal focus on providing, improving and utilizing internet access in a positive and productive manner for the people of Ohoinangan Village, Kec. Big Kei. District Southeast Maluku, Maluku. With this community service activity, we hope to be able to participate in helping the community according to our field of expertise at ITB. In the long term, community service activities are also expected to improve the standard of living and welfare of village communities.
Initial stage activities include a direct survey to Baruakol Village at the end of August 2024. In this survey, checking and testing the condition of the internet network was carried out. , mapping installation locations and coordinating with village officials. From direct observations in the village, [survey results]. The results of the survey are network designs in the village as well as plans for internet access installation locations. Meanwhile, internet access is proposed using satellite-based internet.
The benefit for village communities is increased internet access to increase access to information, education and increase productivity and economic potential in the village. Meanwhile, the benefit for ITB in general is expanding ITB's reach and portfolio regarding internet networks in the 3T area
