Activity Summary

Underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas often have very limited or even no telecommunication infrastructure, making conventional internet access difficult or impossible to obtain. As a result, residents in 3T areas struggle to access important information that could improve their quality of life, such as information about education, health, and economic opportunities. This community service (PM) project aims to improve information access in 3T areas through the use of satellite internet. The project will be carried out in one of the 3T villages, Nursifa Village, East Patani District, Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. The method involves the installation and distribution of satellite internet at several strategic points in the village that are frequently visited by the community. It is expected that with reliable internet access, the people of Nursifa Village will be able to more easily access relevant and up-to-date information, which in turn can boost productivity. Additionally, this initiative aims to improve technological and information literacy among the community, which is expected to open new opportunities in education, health, and the economy. Another expected benefit is improved communication between village residents and their families living outside the region, as well as facilitating cooperation with external parties that can bring development opportunities to the village. Ultimately, this activity is hoped to serve as a role model for other villages in 3T areas to adopt satellite internet technology to overcome limited information access and improve the community’s quality of life.
