The need for salt with adequate quality (NaCl concentration of 98% with a maximum level of impurity 1%) especially for the industry (eg the textile industry and the pharmaceutical industry) makes the industry have to import salt from other countries, especially from Australia, India and China. There are no very definite numbers about this imports, it is estimated that the import rate for salt, especially this industrial salt reaches 2 million tons with no less than Rp 1.5 trillion ($ 150 million). The People's Salt Industry has not been able to provide quality for industrial salt making industrial salt choices must be imported from other countries and the quality of imported salt is sufficient or very high so that the industries that use salt prefer imported salts than salt people even though at a much higher price. This opportunity can be used by the people's salt industry by increasing the quality and quantity of folk salt. The toughest constraints faced by the people is the limitations of knowledge about improving the quality of salt both in terms of science, technology sides, the economic side and side of the quality resources that manage it.
