Activity Summary

Based on Law no. 18 of 2012, food is anything that comes from biological sources, agricultural products, plantations, forestry, fisheries, animal husbandry, waters and water, whether processed or unprocessed, which is intended as food or drink for human consumption, including food additives, food raw materials, and other materials used in the process of preparing, processing and/or making food or drinks. Food consumed by the public must be safe, nutritious and of good quality. Food safety is the main thing that must be ensured so that the food consumed does not cause detrimental effects. Nutrients are substances or compounds found in food consisting of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, fiber, water and other components that are beneficial for human growth and health. The food consumed, apart from having to be safe and nutritious, must also be of high quality. Food quality is a value determined on the basis of food safety and nutritional content criteria. Apart from these three food requirements, Muslims also need to ensure whether the food consumed is halal food or not. Halal food itself is food that does not contain elements or ingredients that are haram or prohibited for consumption by Muslims.

Many people do not know whether the food or food consumed is safe, nutritious, high quality and halal. . Therefore, efforts are needed to increase public knowledge regarding this matter. The first step that can be taken is to go directly to the community to provide education regarding food safety and halal food. This step can be started from community cadres, for example PKK or posyandu cadres, to health cadres so that these cadres can disseminate and teach correct information regarding food. Therefore, community service activities were carried out by the SF ITB Pharmacochemistry scientific group (KK) with a theme related to increasing the knowledge of health/community cadres through education related to food safety and halal. The location of the activity is the partner village of the ITB School of Pharmacy, namely Tanjungsari Village, Kec. Gunungtanjung, Kab. Tasikmalaya, West Java. The ITB Pharmacy School and/or other KK have carried out community service activities in the partner villages several times. So with this activity it is hoped that the development of partner villages by the ITB School of Pharmacy will continue.
