Various universities in West Java including ITB have also been active in 2018 by applying various technologies ranging from household waste management, fish cultivation management, bioremidiation processing to monitoring sensors Water quality. At present, to be able to have a massive impact on the treatment of waste in the Citarum watershed, continuity is needed in handling it. The Citarum River stretches along 297 kilometers and crosses 13 regencies/cities starting from Situ Cisanti, Bandung Regency until it empties into Muara Gembong, Bekasi Regency. The scope of the Citarum watershed is quite large, almost 20% of the total area of West Java Province. Therefore, ITB as one of the leading academic institutions in Janjung, West Java will continue to participate in the handling of damage to the Citarum River through the dissemination of various appropriate application of science and technology. Citarum watershed flow across 13 districts/cities where the Citarum watershed is currently experiencing pollution and environmental damage which results in losses in the economic, social, health, ecosystem and environmental resources sectors. The high domestic and industrial activity is the main cause of the pollution of the Citarum River. Citarum river pollution is caused by industrial pollution, agricultural waste, livestock waste, fisheries waste, domestic waste and domestic waste. Based on Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management, waste is the rest of the daily activities of humans and/or dense natural processes. The rapid development of the population and the increasing level of consumption, resulting in the increasing generation and the variety of types of waste produced. Based on data from the West Java Provincial Housing and Settlement Office in 2018 waste generation in the Citarum watershed of 3512 tons/day sourced from eight districts/cities. 77.7% sources of waste generation originated from the city of Bandung, Bandung Regency, Cimahi City and West Bandung Regency. The second largest generation came from Karawang Regency by 12.7% and the remaining 9.6% was sourced from Bekasi Regency, Purwakarta Regency, and Cianjur Regency. Based on the Action Plan for Control of Pollution and Damage to the 2019-2025 Citarum Watershed, a strategy to overcome the entry of garbage into the Citarum River consists of two major parts, namely handling garbage in the Citarum River and handling household waste which is currently not managed quickly and thoroughly. There are 629 priority villages scattered in the Citarum watershed. Priority Village is a village located on the edge of the Citarum River. In an effort to support the central government program and the West Java Provincial Government regarding the acceleration of pollution and damage to the Citarum River Basin. ITB has also actively played a role through the Citarum Harum Restoration Integrated Task Force formed since 2018. In 2022 this time LPPM launched the Community Service Program with the Citarum Harum Community Service Program Assignment (PM Citarum Harum) which was prepared for two targets namely (1) Sustainability Targets in villages that have been fostered previously in the Citarum River area, namely Kampung Tarikolot, (2) other villages around the Citarum River Basin namely Cinangsi and Cirata Reservoir. This proposed community service chose the target of target sustainability in the previously fostered villages in the Citarum River area, namely Kampung Tarikolot in Cinangsi Village, Cianjur Regency. Kampung Tarikolot requires a proposal for the concept of independent residential waste management and examples of implementation in accordance with the current conditions in order to control/reduce waste discharged into the Citarum River.
