Researcher Name (Team Leader)

Activity Summary

KK Paleontology and Quaternary Geology (KK PGK) since 2011 has been conducting research on tsunami deposits and paleotsunami deposits along the southern coast of West Java. The research results indicate that tsunami events have occurred several times. The tsunami incident resulting from this research certainly has the potential to occur in the Wanasalam area, Lebak Regency, Banten Province. This recurring tsunami event is indicated by the presence of several layers of paleotsunami deposits found in several places on the southern coast of West Java, including the Banten area. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that the Wanasalam area has the potential for repeated tsunami events and tsunamis have the potential to occur again in the future. Based on the potential for this potential event in the future, it is felt that there is a need to provide outreach on understanding the potential for tsunami events for the community in this area. It is hoped that this outreach to the community will make people aware that there is still the potential for another tsunami to occur in the future. By understanding the potential for tsunami events in the future, it is hoped that local communities will always be alert and can prepare to save themselves if an earthquake occurs again which has the potential to cause a tsunami.
