Activity Summary

Indonesia has many areca and plant plants to one of the majority commodities in the Jambi Province. Meanwhile, the new areca fruit is used as a commodity from Jambi, because of the Best Quality areca nuts. Whereas the bruts are still a lot to be waste. Pinang plants naturally will let go of their outstandy to replace with new midribs, then with the number of areca nuts, it is necessary to find a solution to reduce the waste. The use of arecails has been done in several Asian countries such as India, Bangladesh, Thailand, etc. Pinang (Arecacatechu) is a type of palm whose leaves (the midrib) have benefits to be used as a forum for eating with hot press techniques. Since 2017, Dr. Muhammad Ihsan from the research center of cultural and environmental products and the team developed a plate maker of areca nuts with hot press techniques. This effort began in Geragai Village using LNG gas with a minimum production speed of 30 minutes / 1 plate. This development immediately arrived by 2020 so that the electric power press was obtained at a production speed of 1 minute / product. However, there is no further process after the plate is printed. In 2021, this activity was continued by designing and making curing tools to improve the quality and shelf life of this plate and this tool will be implemented in Muntialo Village. Ultraviolet (UV) Curing is a process that produces polymer cross networks due to a photocemistry reaction by UV rays. UV is used in this process is the UVC which later also used to disinfect the surface of the object. UV curing system consists of four main components, conveyors, UV lights, reflectors and resources. On Tooluv Curing for organic plates of this arecal round used UV LEDs with waves 365-405 Nm, aluminum as a reflector and with structures such as chamber. Dimensions of UV Curing Chamber have a height of 150 cm with a diameter of 120 cm made with a loading and unloading structure for making delivery and maintenance tools. In the middle there are 3 UVLED 36 Watts and 4 level shelves with a capacity of 36 plates. Vase shelves are also designed to accommodate 3 types of plate / bowls produced. When needed for curing is 1-1.5 minutes. At this first prototype all the front surface / bowl is converted by UV with a higher intensity than the background of the back. This is because the back of the UV results of the reflector of the reflector. Sometimes there will be airyang granules on the wall in the chamber that evaporates from the plate / mangkoksehingga need to be cleaned regularly so as not to reduce curing / bowl quality.

Testimonials

This areca plate sterilization tool is useful for extending the life of the plate so that it has longer shelf life and allows for sales to a further place.
