Activity Summary

Catfish is an affordable source of nutrition with protein and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Cultivating catfish is relatively easy compared to other fish or other sources of animal protein. The School of Pharmacy has initiated catfish cultivation activities in buckets (budikdamber) since 2023 involving Posyandu cadres in Tanjungsari village, sub-district. Gunungtanjung, Kab. Tasikmalaya. Through the DRPM ITB assisted village program in 2024, a pilot scale cultivation of catfish in tarpaulin ponds will be carried out which is integrated with the use of pond waste for planting vegetables and post-harvest processing. This activity focuses on increasing the scale of cultivation with bamboo-framed and tarpaulin ponds that can accommodate around 500 catfish. Residents receive technical guidance regarding the cultivation process and the use of pond water as fertilizer for vegetable plants and the processing of harvests in the form of fumigation. It is hoped that this larger scale cultivation will not only be a means to support programs to improve child nutrition, but also become a business model for local residents or BUMDES.
