Seminars have been held for socialization and scientific workshops on nuclear physics and biophysics on a national and international scale. This regional workshop activity was attended by expert teams from both domestic and foreign, such as IAEA, Kyusu University, Tokyo City University, Nisantasi Univ, Politecnico di Milano, Tsinghua University, ITB, UGM, BRIN, BAPETEN, PLN, ESDM and also from ASEAN countries. This activity is an effective and strategic forum to become a discussion forum for international experts in providing input to the government in the form of a draft white paper with the topic "Potential of SMR technology to be applied for the 2060 Indonesian NZE Program." Apart from the experts who took part, there were also young researchers and Both undergraduate and postgraduate students will participate in this workshop so as to provide new hope for the sustainability of superior human resources and national and international competitiveness.
The imperative to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2050 intensifies in energy-intensive South-East Asia, including Indonesia. A collaborative approach, emphasizing an increased integration of renewables and nuclear power, is crucial to meet the surging energy demands. Globally, over 20 countries are actively developing advanced reactors, with more than 90 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) concepts progressing. Notably, about 20 designs are set for deployment as demonstration units by 2035, marking significant strides in nuclear innovation. Regional nuclear societies play a vital role in guiding decision-makers through the complexities of these advances, underscoring the transformative phase in achieving sustainable energy solutions.
This workshop aims to provide a technical exchange forum among international experts on the subjects and strengthen energy society in South-East Asia that hopefully can draft white papers on the subject “Potential SMR technologies to be implemented for Indonesia NZE 2060 Program” as an output.
