Activity Summary

Rejected candlenuts are candlenuts that do not meet quality standards for commercial marketing with the characteristics of breaking, cracking, or having an imperfect shape. Alor, as one of the districts producing candlenut seeds in East Nusa Tenggara, is facing problems in reducing the selling value of rejected candlenut seeds. Rejected candlenut seeds have great potential to be processed into candlenut oil with an oil content of up to 60%. Therefore, appropriate technology is needed to process rejected candlenut seeds considering that technology must be efficient in using fuel and in producing products. In this community service program, the SITH team introduced several appropriate technologies to the people of Alor in the form of a rattan candlenut breaker without using fuel, a hydraulic press that produces candlenut oil manually with pressure without fuel, a screw press that produces candlenut oil using electric power. The application of appropriate technology is expected to increase the selling value of rejected candlenuts in Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

Target

Increasing the knowledge and skills of the Kuneman Village community regarding the extraction of candlenut seed oil.

Testimonials

The impact of this activity is appropriate technology developed by the Agrotechnology and Bioproduct Technology KK and the Plant Science and Biotechnology KK within the School of Life Sciences and Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology. The extraction equipment that has been donated to farmers in South Alor District can be used to process rejected candlenut seeds to produce vegetable oil so that it can improve the welfare of farmers in South Alor
