Community service carried out in Bonibais Village, Laenmanen District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), related to appropriate technology for candlenut crushing aims to help village communities increase the efficiency and yield of their candlenut production. Candlenuts are one of the important commodities in the region However, the solution process often takes quite a lot of time and energy. Therefore, our team introduced appropriate technology for cracking candlenuts as a solution to increase the productivity and income of candlenut farmers in the village. The first visit focused on socializing the post-harvest optimization process for candlenuts and introducing derivative products that can be produced from candlenuts. The second visit focused on the practice of cracking candlenuts and also producing oil, soap and briquettes from candlenut dregs and shells. The candlenut crushing machine is specifically designed to be used efficiently at the household or small business level. This tool can break candlenuts more quickly and easily compared to traditional methods that rely on manual labor.
This project is beneficial for village communities, especially in meeting market demand for whole and quality candlenut seeds. For lecturers, this activity is very useful because it can share knowledge with village communities and help empower village communities.
