Kapitan Meo Village is a village in Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, known for producing high-quality candlenuts. The village, which consists of 10 hamlets, primarily earns its income from candlenut farming. Most households in this village have 4-5 candlenut trees, with a production of up to 700 kg each candlenut season. These candlenuts are sold as dried candlenut fruits, with market prices ranging from 3,000 to 8,000 rupiahs per kilogram. However, the price of candlenut seeds, once the shell is cracked, is 6-9 times higher than the price of dried candlenut fruits. Another issue in this village is the limited electricity supply. Only the area near the main road in the front of the village has electricity, and even then, the supply is limited. The ITB team, in collaboration with the 3T program from the Ministry of Village Development, carried out the application of appropriate technology and socialized the community about a candlenut cracking machine. In this activity, the people of Kapitan Meo Village were introduced to a user-friendly candlenut cracking machine, which is expected to help increase the community’s income.
