Activity Summary

One of the main challenges of agriculture in Indonesia is the high level of loss of agricultural products at the post-harvest stage. This condition is often the reason for the relatively high price difference between producing regions and consumers. In addition, this is one of the causes of farming income not optimally due to a decrease in the quantity and quality of the products produced. A common approach to overcome this problem is to change agricultural products into processed products. However, this approach is also considered less efficient because Indonesian agricultural products are less well known by the wider community. For this reason, the post-harvest technology approach that aims to protect or extend the storage period of agricultural products including fruit and vegetables from the harvest period until consumption is very important. The use of cheap technology based on Indonesian wealth with raw materials is easily obtained and adapted to Indonesian geographical conditions is needed for handling post-harvest products. Therefore, a transfer of knowledge is needed to practitioners / industries, the general public, and students regarding the right handling for post-harvest products.
