In determining the characteristics of the new moon, there are at least two elements of astronomical knowledge and techniques that are needed, namely observation and image processing of the new moon.
In this workshop, basic astronomical knowledge is introduced which is the basis for understanding new moon objects. , which includes (but is not limited to) coordinates and positions of celestial bodies, the concept of time and the Hijri calendar, eclipses, and telescope systems. Apart from that, as the main topic of the workshop, participants were introduced to simple observation techniques and hilal image processing techniques.
In holding this workshop, the FMIPA ITB Astronomy KK collaborated with the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia and the Bosscha Observatory, FMIPA ITB, and attended by more than 30 participants who are hilal activists and observers from the ministry of religion, the Indonesian University of Education (UPI), and the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
Conveying lessons to the public about the nature of the visibility of the new moon. Inviting new moon activists to understand the basic science behind the practice of observing the new moon. Providing simple training on new moon imagery to new moon activists
Opening up great opportunities for collaboration with various institutions/institutions/universities, providing promotions for the FMIPA ITB Astronomy Postgraduate Program so that it can open up opportunities for Masters or Doctoral admissions in this field.
